Removing TLSv1.0 support 1st June 2017

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

What are we doing?

From 1st June 2017, Localphone will be moving away from TLS version 1.0 and will disable the encryption protocol across all its services. The deprecation will have effects on all Localphone customers currently using TLS v1.0, and it is advised that you check if you’re going to be affected.

Why are we doing this?

This is part of our on-going work to keep our customer data safe.

Will this affect you?

This will mainly affect people using computers or phones with older versions of software.
If you are using an up-to-date system, along with an up-to-date browser, then this change won’t affect you at all, your computer will already be using the more secure TLSv1.1 or TLSv1.2 protocols to connect to our website and systems.

What desktop browsers are compatible?

Internet Explorer

Desktop versions of IE 8, 9 and 10 are TLS compatible if you are running Windows 7 or higher, but not by default. Future versions of Internet Explorer are compatible by default.

Mozilla Firefox

TLS version 1.1 or 1.2 is supported in Mozilla Firefox version 23 onwards, although you may have to change a setting in your browser to enable the support.

Google Chrome

Any versions above 38 are compatible by default

Safari

Safari versions 7 and higher for OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and higher are compatible with TLS v1.1 and higher.

What mobiles are compatible?

Android

Any Android version above 5.0 (Lollipop) already supports TLS v1.1 and higher.

iOS

iOS 9 and above should be compatible. Older versions may be able to connect depending on your configuration.

What will happen if it’s not compatible?

Your connection will be rejected and you won’t be able to connect to our system until you up-date your computer/phone.

Spanish language added to the Localphone website

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

We are pleased to announce that we have launched a localized version of the Localphone website in Spanish. If you have your Internet browser set to Spanish you will see a pop up message asking you whether you would like to view the Spanish version of the website. Customers will be able to create an account, add credit and send SMS text messages in Spanish. Users who don’t automatically see the pop up message can click the language link in the footer or change it in your account settings.

We hope the new language option will encourage new customers to use the service, as well as making the website more accessible for our existing customers. Visit the new Localphone Spanish website.

This is the first of many languages that will be added to the website. CEO and founder of Localphone, Paul Cusack, said, ‘We are delighted to have added Spanish to our website. The company goal is to become a multilingual service and we look forward to adding more languages over the coming months.’

New Localphone Website

It’s here – our brand new, shiny website. We’ve given it a whole new-look, and have been working hard to make it easier for you to use. The site is more informative with some new and exciting features to help you get the most out of our services.

Check out the new stuff below:

  • We’ve renamed Direct Dial to Local Numbers
When you log in you’ll see the Local Numbers tab where you can add new contacts. If you can SMS to your Local Numbers we also now list the cost to text. You’ll only see this if your location is set to the UK or America.

  • There are new logged-in tabs to help you discover our services
Each section has got extra information in the form of a “learn more” link to help you understand how to use our services. Visit My Account to take a look.

  • The VoIP page has changed to include a brand new desktop phone
We’ve re-named the service to Internet Phone to make it a bit clearer for people who don’t know what VoIP is. We’ve also launched a brand new desktop phone that makes calling from your computer even easier.

  • You can now click to call from our site
Dial Online is another new service which lets you make an international call between two phones by clicking a button on our site.

  • Log in using your Facebook Account
You can now log in to Localphone using your Facebook account – it’s quick and it’s easy.
  • And that’s it! Head on over and look around.
And don’t worry if you miss something as there’s lots to see, but in the coming weeks we’ll write posts to remind you about some of the new features and services. Please be sure to tell us what you think of the new site. We’re keen to hear your feedback, so why not leave your comments here.
