Better Access Number Coverage in Europe

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

One frequent request that we hear from our European users is to improve our access number coverage across the continent, and to offer more Direct Dial numbers in the cities we already serve.

To start this process we’ve contracted with a new supplier and I’m pleased to announce that we have expanded our coverage to 50 Direct Dial access numbers in the following cities:

  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Madrid, Spain
  • Oslo, Norway
  • Paris, France

If you are currently using access numbers in these cities please note that we have updated the numbers you’ll need to dial. You can get an up-to-date list on Your Dashboard. The old access numbers will continue to work for now but we plan to disable them within the next few weeks.

If you live in one of these countries but are not currently using access numbers in the above cities and would like to take advantage of the improved coverage, you can update your Direct Dial numbers at any time by clicking the “change” link next to “Your Location” on Your Dashboard.

I hope you’ll benefit from this first stage of improved coverage. Over the coming months we’ll be expanding our access numbers in more cities, as well as launching our service in new European countries.

As always, please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other suggestions or other comments.

We have recently expanded our access number coverage to offer Localphone’s cheap international calling service to customers in Malta, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic. If you have friends or family in these countries—or anywhere else for that matter—don’t forget to recommend Localphone to them to earn free calling credit.

We have also added or extended access number coverage in locations in the following US states: Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

This brings our total coverage to an impressive 66,702 access numbers in 44 countries around the world! If we don’t have access numbers in your location yet let us know and we’ll see what we can do. In the meantime, don’t forget you can still get our great rates with a broadband Internet connection and Localphone VoIP.

Money Saving Tip: Calling Toll Free Numbers From Your Mobile

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Many of our customers dial our local access numbers from their mobiles, and have these calls included in their phone contracts’ free minutes. Unfortunately in the UK these deals rarely include calls to the toll free numbers like those starting with 0800, 0500, and 0808.

Because Localphone doesn’t charge for calls to UK toll free numbers just add them as a contact and use the local access number to call for free. If it’s a number you don’t dial very often the call is still free using the Localphone Calling Card.

New Access Number for the Localphone SMS Service

Friday, October 17th, 2008

As you may already be aware, you can control some aspects of your Localphone account using our SMS service.

If you are already using the service please note that from today our new access number is +441555715557. Using the old number will return a message reminding you about the update.

Number of Available Contacts Increased

Monday, October 6th, 2008

In response to customer requests we have increased the number of contacts you can add to the Localphone dashboard to 50.

If your location is set to the UK you will be assigned a Direct Dial access number for each of these. Elsewhere the number will vary from location to location depending on availability.

If you add more contacts than we have access numbers available you will be shown a two-digit speed dial number you can use with the Localphone Calling Card. If you need to call more than 50 people you can still call any number you like for the same great rates by using our Calling Card service.

Most customers won’t be affected by this change, but for our power-users this should make the service even more convenient. If you have any ideas or comments about how Localphone could help you then please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Local Numbers Now Available in Ireland

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

We’re pleased to announce that we have added local access numbers in Dublin, Ireland. This means that customers in Ireland can now use our direct-dial and calling card services straight from their landline or mobile.

Get Started

What Does This Mean for Our Irish Customers?

Calling cards often use premium or national rate access numbers from which they get a kick-back, meaning they can keep their advertised per-minute rate deceptively low. Localphone access numbers are just normal local landlines, calls to which are often included as part of your landline or mobile contract’s free minutes! This is just one reason why Localphone is better than calling cards.

What About Everyone Else?

As of today, we have access numbers in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the USA.

If we don’t have local numbers in your country yet you can still make great savings by calling from your computer with the Localphone VoIP service. We’re always looking to expand into more countries, so if you’d like to see Localphone access numbers where you are let us know!
